This week’s hot article, “Garbage Clearing Potheads Go Viral with a Trend Called the #StonerCleanUpInitiative”, published by Mary Jane Media and written by Zach Harris, takes a look at the Reddit inspired movement of marijuana consumers inspiring other to clean up trash and perform community service.

Marijuana Consumers nationwide have opted out of the stereotypical couch and cruise sessions for scenic vistas and garbage collection. “Sometimes community service is best done after a cone of dank, and not a court order.” Started on Reddit by user RedArms219 during July, defined the rules of the movement in subreddit group r/trees by simply stating: “every time you go to your favorite smoke spot to light up, leave it a little prettier before leaving.”

The first posting featuring a bag of trash and a graffiti-laden bench garnered 22K upvotes. Reddit’s green team sprung into action to roll-up, reuse, and recycle. RedArms219 told everyone that it only took five minutes to collect the bag of trash at a common smoke spot.

Since then, the movement has moved to Twitter and Instagram where they have inspired environmental action, industry support, and, of course, memes. The movement has inspired a worldwide movement of marijuana consumers posting pictures with piles, bags, and truckloads of trash collected from woodland areas and other smoke spots.

Disproving that marijuana consumers are all lazy non-productive members of society benefits everyone involved. Removing the judgment and stigma that surround marijuana use is fully supported by Team Zefyr. We, at Team Zefyr, stand with the creativity of RedArms219 and the many contributing members of this movement. We will be sure to pick up after we light up.
